Asbestos Abatement, Interior Demolition, Concrete Cutting
Detroit Dismantling performed interior demolition and asbestos abatement of a 370,000 square foot, 5-story student residence hall on an active campus. The work included the demolition and removal of walls, ceilings, floor finishes, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, concrete sawcutting and removal, while maintaining the historic aesthetics. Mechanical tunnels were temporarily shored and selectively demolished while carefully maintaining the structural integrity of the building. The residence hall is adjacent to the Michigan Union Hall, which houses food service and retail for the campus. All activities in the MI Union Hall remained operational at all times during demolition. This project was completed in a very aggressive time frame of 60 calendar days with abatement and demolition occurring simultaneously, while coordinating over 200 demolition and abatement laborers on the project daily.
